The Parenting Challenge

Program Overview

 

Educating our community to prevent substance abuse.

 

The following is a summary to provide you with a greater understanding of the workplace prevention program PAYADA under DrugFree Idaho, can provide to your organization.  The Parenting Challenge is an educational program adapted from the NICASA (Northern Illinois Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse) Parent Project. 

 

The Parenting Challenge was designed to meet the needs of parents in the workplace and community to address issues in effective prevention; prevention of substance abuse, delinquent behavior, and child abuse/neglect behaviors.  The goals of the program are to: 1) enrich family relationships, 2) reduce substance abuse and its related problems among the family, and 3) promote healthy environments that build resistance to social and personal dysfunction.

 

The Parenting Challenge focuses on the following areas: 1) establishing supportive networks among parents, 2) improving parent/child relationships, 3) improving parent skills in preventing and identifying substance abuse problems in themselves and their children, 4) improving corporate climate for workers, and 5) increasing a parents ability to balance work and family life.

 

The Parenting Challenge is a program that can be molded to meet the exact demands and specific needs of a business.  This includes choice in topic materials covered, number of sessions, and time frame.  The Parenting Challenge can be presented in 30 to 50 minute sessions at lunchtime at a worksite or adapted to longer after work sessions (i.e. 90 to 120 minute sessions).  The number of sessions and content depend on each individual business and their own requests and can range from one time to ten times, to on-going monthly sessions. 

 

The Parenting Challenge addresses issues common to most parents.  Session topics can include any or all of the following:

The program is a model practice science-based prevention program, acknowledged as successful and effective by a number of national organizations.  This program has received almost a 100% satisfaction rate and has provided demonstrated success in a multitude of areas, including employee morale, increased awareness, improved relationships at home and work, just to name a few.  Please contact us to find out additional information about how to implement this program in your workplace.
