The Red Ribbon Campaign originated in 1985 when Federal Drug Enforcement Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena was murdered by drug traffickers. Each year, the Red Ribbon Rally takes place in an effort to increase drug awareness and focus on the motto, “No use of illegal drugs and no illegal use of legal drugs.” The event directly involves approximately 1,000 youth and many more through the participation of local schools during the course of Red Ribbon Week.
